📈5 common ways to increase your Social Media Presence this Year
Social media is not going away, despite recent studies suggesting its role in societal degradation, loneliness, and a decline in mental health, particularly among younger demographics. However, alongside the negatives such as mental health decline, there are also positives, including education, connectivity, marketing (which may be both a pro and a con, but given our perspective as marketers), and communication. If you intend to establish your presence on social media this year, comprehending both the negatives and positives of its usage will bolster your creativity. Let's delve into it!
If you aim to optimize your online presence authentically, this should serve as the foundational and foremost creative approach to build your personal brand—authenticity. Here are five creative methods to enhance your social media presence in 2024.
1. Authenticity
First off there is no one unique as you. Yes, you are a unique individual and the things you do are not always the same as those amongst you. The phrase ‘be your authentic self’ is actually true. Sure we might have individuals we want to shadow our life off of but you still encapsulate a unique angle. You might not know what that angle/edge is yet but when you start to create, all of your unique experiences, skills, ideas, and other nuances help give you a different perspective in that creation.
If you want to be recognize this year on social media then the ultimate way of doing so is being your authentic self. We all engage with those influencers who we feel can express their emotions to the public without feeling they need to fake it. As humans we connect with individuals who are not ‘doing it for the camera’, but actually shows their inner self whether it’s bad or good. Those who subscribe to your content on whichever platform you chose to create content on will feel that connection like a para-social relationship.
2. Consistency
As simple as it sounds, consistency will get you into the habit of posting often. It don’t have to be everyday but having a schedule of when you post can actually help on the platform of your choice. It will tell the algorithms that this profile has the potential to rise in the ranks especially if you create unique and engaging content.
Content types such as Images, Videos, or Infograph’s won’t change anytime soon since they're the best way, so far, for consumer to engage with content on social media. Most individuals would say they’re visual learners. Video types like short-form (Reels, TikTok) are still a great way to create enticing content especially if you can create eye-capturing copy or thumbnails. Doing so every day or week will give you more chances to increase your visibility in the feed.
As long as you have consistency in your post then you are in a more better position to increase your social media presence and followings.
3. Engaging Content
Engaging content will help with being discovered by others since many social media platforms runs on algorithms. It will be able to detect the amount of likes, comments, shares, and newness of your post then supplant you in their feed page. Which is a big deal for getting new followers. For example the instagram account: @hoodville, is a meme page with 8.4M followers. It got there with being engulfed in raunchy celebrity drama and entertainment for mostly college kids and young adults, especially in hip-hop culture.
One of their recent post have over 194,804 likes and 378 comments. I don’t know the other metrics but I am sure it is high.
Hoodville knows its audience so it is consistent with its message.
4. Know your audience
If you don’t have an idea of who you at least want your audience to be then you’ll be posting in the dark. It’s not ideal to target everyone because you’ll be targeting no one. It is best to have a category, niche, sub-niche, or a topic that resonates with you first since it leads back to you being your authentic self.
If it is something you're an expert in then display that through a post. Highlight something informative about that subject. I found that most post I interact with are usually entertaining, informative, or both. It can be anything boring from nuclear fusion to statistics but if it is an interesting take on those two fields then it usually grasp my attention.
It don’t matter who your audience is because social media is a form of entertainment so most post should skirt along the lines of being entertaining, how else will you hook someone into clicking on a post.
5. Interactions
Social media is a place to be social so not interacting with your audience won’t be serving you well. If you want to increase your presence then be present. Let others know your profile exists. You can obtain followers by just posting comments on the profiles that inspire you.
Although not mentioned in this list of 5, following relevant accounts can also bring about followers to your profile. If you interact on the accounts in your niche then that draws attention to you from those followers who also read the comments you post.
If your post is getting interactions then replying to comments will make that user feel more connected to you. They would also continue to interact with your profile and possibly refer their friends to check you out.
These were 5 common ways of building your social media presence. I am hoping you utilize them as they are tried and tested methods for growing your following and recognition.
